Our Trainers


Terry Parrish

Terry is the founder and director of the San Pasqual Stockdog Training Facility and Action K9 Sports. She has been a Herding Judge of AKC and AHBA trials since their inception. She judged the first all-breed herding event in the nation and is a designer of AHBA courses. Terry began herding with the Oliver Livestock Co., a working cattle ranch. Terry began managing her own commercial flock in the 1990s and began teaching herding full-time in 1991. Terry has qualified her own dogs for the National Finals since the beginning of the competition, as have many of her students. Terry has been featured on many southern California TV and radio shows, including Animal Planet, and in numerous newspaper interviews. She trials extensively with her dogs and conducts clinics across the entire United States as well as Australia. The vast accomplishments of Terry's students testify to her instructing ability and her knowledge of dog training.


Rich Godfrey

Rich is both an AKC and AHBA Herding Test and Trial Judge. He and his dogs have earned six herding championships culminating in two "Triple Crown" wins in AKC, AHBA and ASCA. His dogs are among only a handful of German Shepherds in the entire nation to achieve this honor. Rich has been involved in herding for nearly two decades–training, trialing and teaching. Rich specializes in working with all dog breeds. As a testament to his teaching and coaching skills, his students and their dogs have successfully won awards at all levels of herding from instinct tests to championships. Rich is a Vietnam era veteran who served four years as a Navy Corpsman. After leaving the Navy, he spent the next 38 years as a med tech for the Veterans Administration Hospital in San Diego


Steven Kilgore

Steve has trained and titled dogs in Retrieving field work, breed championships, obedience, AKC Canine Good Citizen, trick titles, Farm Dog Certification, and Rally.  His current dog is Ellie, a McNab Shepard. As of this writing, her fancy name is Ellie Kilgore CD RN HSAs HIAs HXAsd HSBs HIBs  HXBs HSDs FDC CGCA CGCU TKP (TKN, TKI, TKA) AD JHD HTAD 1-s HTAD II-s HTAD III-s

Ellie has also done commercial and film work, and has her own agent and Venmo account. 


Steven and Ellie are actively training and competing in AKC and AHBA Herding trials, working on Championships in both organizations..with an occasional Border Colle trial thrown in to keep them humble.


Kat Hammond

Kat has been herding for 3 years but has been working dogs and horses for half her life. She has two Border Collies, Cole (3yrs) and Ciaran (6yrs), who are actively training and competing in USBCHA, AKC, and AHBA. She has travelled to NV, CO, and parts of CA to run both her dogs in the Open Class at USBCHA trials.  Kat and Cole have earned AHBA  & AKC Titles in Sheep & Duck Classes and have placed in the top ten at USBCHA trials. They are currently working towards their AKC Championship, finishing up Advanced AHBA Titles, and getting more cattle trials under their belt. Ciaran and Kat are a new team and are currently working towards earning titles. Kat's ultimate goals is to compete her dogs at the Meeker Classic and the Soldier Hollow Classic.

Reegan Ray

Reegan has herded for 15 years with her Boxers.  She is one of the founding members of SPVHC and teaches herding and tracking for competition.  Reegan’s dogs have earned championships in AHBA, AKC and successfully competed in USBCHA.  She has bred 3 generations of herding and tracking boxer champions, making the Boxer the first working breed to have championships in both sports.
